1926 Hospital Under Construction, Hotel Parq Central, Albuquerque, New Mexico
About Hotel Parq Central

Discover the Story Behind Our Boutique Albuquerque Hotel

Locally owned and operated, Hotel Parq Central is one of Albuquerque's most storied and welcoming boutique hotels, a century-old landmark reimagined for the modern traveler. Each morning begins with a continental breakfast buffet served in the Parlor or on the outdoor dining terrace, where house-made quiche, fresh fruit, pastries, locally roasted coffee, and more set the tone for the day ahead. As proud stewards of this 1926 historic building, we are committed to preserving its character for generations of guests to come, a dedication reflected in our $25 per night Historic Hotel Fee, which takes effect July 15, 2026, and goes directly toward the ongoing care of this Albuquerque landmark.

1926

The building is first constructed in 1926 as The Santa Fe Railway Hospital for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway serving injured railroad workers. The original campus, which still stands today, consisted of the main hospitality facility, the chief surgeon's residence, nurse's dormitory, and boiler plant.

1940s

The hospital is renamed AT&SF Hospital. Patients were received at the south entrance of the hospital under the protection of a
porte-co-chere. This original drive-thru has now been enclosed as a sun-filled Conservatory sitting room for hotel guests.

1980s

Purchased by a group of psychiatrists, the building is renamed Memorial Hospital and becomes a facility for children suffering from mental illness. The hospital operated from 1981 to 2006 when it shut down and ultimately sat abandoned.

After an extensive four year renovation, the building reopens as Hotel Parq Central. The stucco and stone facades are all restored to their original conditions. All original windows from the 1926 construction, 160 in all were removed, rebuilt, and reinstalled. Exterior ceramic tiles from the original construction are also restored. Today, the building is an Albuquerque Historic Landmark.
