The historic Memorial Hospital is soon to be boutique Hotel Parq Central. The renovation from the 1926 building, which was one of the first hospitals in the city built for the railroad, to the chic, modern hotel will be complete September 26. “We are definitely keeping the integrity of the building,” says Yancy Sturgeon, managing director. “Fifty percent of the hallways are still the hospital width, all the windows on the outside are restored with updated hardware and we’ve raised the roof.”
On the roof of the hotel is the Apothecary Bar, where mixed drinks based on prescriptions will be served, he says. “It’s not a club – just a nice, relaxing atmosphere with a wonderful view of the skyline, food, and culinary drinks,” Sturgeon says. “It’s not a nightclub disco, it’s an urban oasis.” The front entry’s grand staircase was restored and interior columns were finished with handmade New Mexico tile mosaics, he says.
