Hotel Chatter – October 15, 2010
We love sidling up to the bar with a cocktail and munching on some nibbles—especially when they are free. But forget peanuts or some other trifling snack. We’re digging the complimentary spicy housemade potato chips at the new Hotel Parq Central’s Apothecary Lounge in Albuquerque.
We visited the fourth-floor rooftop lounge on its first day of food service and couldn’t put down the thick-cut chips. Our favorite of the addictive snacks were the lime-pepper chips. The chips are very peppery with a punch and would pair well with a margarita.
A very close second were the red chile chips, which are so very New Mexico. The chips had kick, but the chile was pretty mild. The third flavor is plain, but c’mon, plain? And you won’t have to worry about eating a whole bowl because the chips are cooked in peanut oil. (That negates all the bad stuff, right?)
In case you need something more substantial to eat, try the Sambuca Martini, which costs $10. Served in a martini glass, prawns are sauteed in sambuca and sit atop a chevril salad. The prawns have a hint of sweetness, while the salad offers a more savory quality to counterbalance it.
As for drinks, we had a yummy Cosmo. The bar is still tinkering with its menu, so there aren’t any signature or specialty libations just yet. No matter, we’re there for the chips anyway.
